Meet ‘Serendip’, a Ripplescape named after ‘The Three Princes of Serendip’, an ancient Persian fairy tale from which the word ‘serendipity’ is derived. The story, about a king who sends his sons on a journey of discovery, relates to a key feature of Ripplescapes’ patterns: they unfold unpredictably. Which, by the way, is not the same as by chance. A Ripplescape is created by small deviations in the underlying pattern of lines that you can manipulate. And yet you never know exactly what the resulting pattern will look like. That’s what makes drawing Ripplescapes so intriguing!
