Ripplescapes are line compositions created by Maarten H.J. van den Berg, a graphic artist based in The Hague, The Netherlands.
In his teens, Maarten became fascinated by the interference patterns he learned about in physics class and started drawing them in his notebooks – instead of taking notes.
“I have been drawing Ripplescapes since high school and still do every day – during lectures and meetings, when travelling or while listening to music. The drawings help me focus and process sensory information. I like to think of them as keys to the way my brain is wired: a kind of mental algorithms or mind maps.”
From notebooks to canvas
In 2024, Maarten moved his drawings from notebooks to canvas, trading pen for acrylic paint and ink, and called them Ripplescapes.
